Henrietta Lacks (August 1, 1920 – October 4, 1951)[1] (sometimes erroneously called Henrietta Lakes, Helen Lane or Helen Larson) was an African-American woman who was the unwitting source of cells (from her cancerous tumor), which were cultured by George Otto Gey to create an immortal cell line for medical research. This is now known as the HeLa cell line.[2]

Sex in America
NEW YORK — The male-female orgasm gap. The sex lives of 14-year-olds. An intriguing breakdown of condom usage rates, by age and ethnicity, with teens emerging as more safe-sex-conscious than boomers.
That's just a tiny sampling of the data being unveiled Monday in what the researchers say is the largest, most comprehensive national survey of Americans' sexual behavior since 1994.
Filling 130 pages of a special issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, the study offers detailed findings on how often Americans have sex, with whom, and how they respond. In all, 5,865 people, ranging in age from 14 to 94, participated in the survey.
The lead researchers, from Indiana University's Center for Sexual Health Promotion, said the study fills a void that has grown since the last comparable endeavor _ the National Health and Social Life Survey _ was published 16 years ago. Major changes since then include the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, the types of sex education available to young people, the advent of same-sex marriage, and the emergence of the Internet as a tool for social interaction.
Dr. Dennis Fortenberry, a pediatrics professor who was lead author of the study's section about teen sex, said the overall findings of such a huge survey should provide reassurance to Americans who are curious about how their sex lives compare with others.
"Unless, like al-Qaida, you feel there's something abnormal about the American people, what these data say is, 'This is normal _ everything in there is normal.'"
The researchers said they were struck by the variety of ways in which the subjects engaged in sex _ 41 different combinations of sexual acts were tallied, encompassing vaginal and anal intercourse, oral sex, and partnered masturbation.
Men are more likely to experience orgasm when vaginal intercourse is involved, while women are more likely to reach orgasm when they engage in variety of acts, including oral sex, said researcher Debra Herbenick, lead author of the section about women's sex lives.
She noted there was a gap in perceptions _ 85 percent of the men said their latest sexual partner had an orgasm, while only 64 percent of the women reported having an orgasm in their most recent sexual event.
One-third of women experienced genital pain during their most recent sex, compared to 5 percent of men, said Herbenick, citing this as an area warranting further study.

Sheriff Alert
Sheriff's Office News alert.................
Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the PD and they were going to check it out. This is what I was told...
"Several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves, are now plotting different ways to get a person to "stop" their vehicle.
"There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department that gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby. Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a wooded or grassy (field) area ...and the person - woman - will be dragged into the woods-beaten and raped- usually left for dead. DO NOT STOP. DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW!!!
"IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD. DO NOT TURN ON YOUR WIPERS AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER ON IT BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOMES MILKY AND YOU'LL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE!!!! YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THIEVES. THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS. PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES. THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES AND THESE UNSAVORY INDIVIDUALS WILL TAKE DESPERATE MEASURES TO GET WHAT THEY WANT."
Please talk to your loved ones about this. This is a new tactic used and I would hate for anyone to fall victim to this kind of crime.
Please BE SAFE AND NEVER STOP YOUR VEHICLE at tactics like this.

Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan Today
Michael Jeffrey Jordan, recognized as one of the most popular athletes of his time, was born February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn New York and was raised in Wilmington North Carolina where he flourished in baseball, football and basketball in high school even though he was told he was too short at 5'11" for varsity basketball his sophomore year. However, he was determined to prove the coaches wrong and eventually earned a basketball scholarship in 1981 to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A year before he was to graduate he was drafted to the Chicago Bulls as the third overall pick, but returned to complete his degree in 1986. During the 1968-87 season, after recovering from complications from a broken foot, he became the only player other than Wilt Chamberlain to score 3000 points in a season as well as the first player in NBA history to record 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season. After years of consecutive MVP awards and breaking other records he retired in 1993 after the murder of his father to whom he was very close. After a short stint in minor league baseball he returned to the Bulls in 1995 until his second retirement in 1999 when he became President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards. He had an itch to play again and began training for a reemergence as a player on the Wizards 2001. He played his final game on April 16, 2003.
Along with the numerous brand endorsements in his career, his first few years of retirement were spent playing in celebrity golf tournaments, motorcycle riding, and promoting his line of clothing and shoes. He has owned Michael Jordan Motorsports since 2004 whose team competes in the Superbike class sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). He and his wife have been involved in philanthropic activities that include a pledge of $5 million to Chicago's Hales Franciscan High School and donations to Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Club Louisiana branch through his Jordan clothing brand. He became part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006 where he serves as Managing Member of Basketball Operations. His legacy in basketball continues with his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.

Dislike Being Scammed? Avoid This Fraud on Facebook
Attorney General Roy Cooper is warning users of the popular social networking site about a trick that can give scammers access to information in users’ profiles. Facebook has a feature that allows users to indicate that they “Like” something that appears on the website, such as a post or photograph. Scammers figured out that users also want to be able to indicate when they don’t like something on the website. The scammers are luring users to click a link to download an official “dislike” button. The message containing the link appears to have been sent by a friend, but it was actually generated automatically when the friend fell for the scam.
There is no official dislike button, and clicking the link can extract the user’s personal information and give it to the scammers. Avoid clicking on suspicious links whether they appear in emails or on websites. Remove suspicious applications (“apps”) from your Facebook profile if you think you might have been deceived into loading them. Remove all references to them from your Facebook features (status, News Feed, Likes and Interests) so you don’t accidentally encourage someone else to click that suspicious link.

Move Over Law
"Move-over" law
New Traffic Law 2010 - Ticket cost $754.00
GOOD THING TO KNOW: New Law: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph below the posted speed limit. Every state except Hawaii , Maryland and D.C. Has this law. In California , the "Move-over" law became operative on January 1, 2010.
A friend's son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out)it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. He had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane. The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance.
Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true, see details at the following web address:

The Power of Prayer
POWER OF PRAYER
Someone has said if Christians really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Did you know that during WWII there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every day at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace? There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate: Every evening at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, (8:00 p.m.Central), (7:00 p.m. Mountain), (6:00 p.m. Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and for the return to a Godly nation. If you know anyone else who would like to participate, please pass this along. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.

President Obama's Accomplishment-2010
"Robert P. Watson, Ph.D. Coordinator of American Studies
Lynn University "
Email: [email protected]
I am always being asked to grade Obama's presidency. In place of offering him a grade, I put together a list of his accomplishments thus far. I think you would agree that it is very impressive. His first six months have been even more active than FDRs or LBJs the two standards for such assessments. Yet, there is little media attention given to much of what he has done. Of late, the media is focusing almost exclusively on Obama's critics, without holding them responsible for the uncivil, unconstructive tone of their disagreements or without holding the previous administration responsible for getting us in such a deep hole. The misinformation and venom that now passes for political reporting and civic debate is beyond description.
As such, there is a need to set the record straight. What most impresses me is the fact that Obama has accomplished so much not from a heavy-handed or top-down approach but from a style that has institutionalized efforts to reach across the aisle, encourage vigorous debate, and utilize town halls and panels of experts in the policy-making process. Beyond the accomplishments, the process is good for democracy and our democratic processes have been battered and bruised in recent years.
Let me know if I missed anything in the list (surely I did).
